I have had this photo frame since the late 90’s. It has housed both a piece of art and our wedding photo from 2000. It is now a new chalkboard in our front hall! This is how I did it.
I removed the glass and laid the frame out on some newspapers. I chose delta creative Ceramcoat acrylic paint in the color ‘magnolia white’. Simply pour it in a pie tin and use a wet (and then rung out) rag to wipe it onto the frame evenly.
I applied about 2-3 coats to get it to the desired coverage. So easy; my 8 year old even helped!
Then I spray painted the glass from the frame with chalkboard paint. Yes, you read that correctly. I spray painted the GLASS!! It took quite a few coats to get it covered evenly to the point where no light was coming through the glass anymore. Spray cans of the chalk board paint can be a little pricey in my book, but I used my 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby!
I let the paint dry and then put it back into the frame. I then let the chalkboard paint dry all night long before I wrote on the board.
I LOVE it ~ it will be used for all kinds of notes and memos for our busy family. It is hung right in the front hall.
This was SO much fun to do, and extremely easy! I am sure happy with it. What else can I shabby chic and give new life?? :)
